Entergy, Cleco applaud successful Empower Louisiana appliance rebate program
$6.45 million in Energy Star rebates reserved over seven days
Baton Rouge, La. – Entergy’s Louisiana utilities and Cleco are pleased by the success of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources’ Empower Louisiana appliance rebate program, through which Louisiana consumers reserved $6.45 million in Energy Star rebates in only seven days.
As the largest electricity providers participating with DNR’s Empower Louisiana program, Cleco and Entergy Louisiana, LLC, Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. and Entergy New Orleans, Inc. also noted the speed with which Louisiana citizens reserved the rebates reflects well on the awareness and interest of the state in opportunities to make energy efficient choices.
The providers were interested participants in plans for marketing the Empower Louisiana appliance rebate program, which was initially funded with $4.2 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act federal funding dedicated to Energy Star appliance rebates. DNR Secretary Scott Angelle later directed that it be expanded by another $2.6 million in federal funds from Louisiana’s State Energy Program.
“We are always looking for ways to help our customers, and because Energy Star appliances are widely recognized as energy efficiency products this program gave thousands of our customers a solid start on making their homes more energy efficient,” said Steven Scheurich, vice president of customer service for Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana. “We all appreciate the leadership Secretary Angelle has shown to help provide customers more ability to take control of their energy costs.”
“We support the Empower Louisiana program and are glad so many people used this opportunity to purchase more energy efficient appliances for their homes,” said Keith Crump, Cleco Power group vice president.
Louisiana consumers reserved more than 33,000 appliances for rebates between Saturday, Aug. 24, and the morning of Saturday, May 1, according to the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources.
